Wild Earth: African Safari

Majesco's Wild Earth: African Safari allows you to venture into untamed and dangerous parts of Africa to capture stills of the local wildlife without fear of being trampled or mauled.

For anyone whose photography dreams ended when their hot neighbor finally caught onto them, those photo taking days can be rekindled a little differently this time in the upcoming Wii game Wild Earth: African Safari.

Wild Earth takes you on an assignment based quest to capture outstanding pictures. Already drawing comparisons to the Nintendo 64 game Pokemon Snap, Wild Earth presents people with a more realistic world where they can hone their photojournalism skills. You'll be sent all over Africa to complete a number of picture taking tasks needed for you to accomplish your assignment. Some of the tasks we saw were getting stills of a crocodile with a bird on its head, a cheetah chasing its prey, and lions eating their prey (though the gore factor is very little for the kids' sake). Every time you take a decent picture of an animal, you'll get to learn a little bit about them too.

You'll need to be stealthy in order to get the perfect shot. Anybody who thinks they can drive their jeep right into the middle of a pack of feasting lions and get good pictures will be sorely mistaken. You don't want to startle the animals or your shots will be ruined. To help you with this, the Wii provides a meter that measures how close you are to upsetting the wild beasts and red blinkers will appear when you're really starting to crash the party. The idea is to zoom in from a distance with the + button on the Wii remote and zoom out with the - button.

Your friends can come along for the ride too! Normally, dragging a group of friends into wild Africa wouldn't be a good idea but Wild Earth encourages it. However, they won't just be chilling out in your jeep as the game allows all four of you to take photos and compete to see who has the best ones. The driving or lead walking position controls are only given to one person though.

Bonus mini-games are given as a reward for completing an assignment. If taking pictures of animals isn't entirely your thing, Wild Earth: African Safari throws you a bone every now and then with a new available mini-game after each completed assignment. There are 11 assignments in all and 11 mini-games too. Some of the showcased games at this point include one where you whack meerkats (filling in for the traditional moles), another where, as an elephant, you spray filthy animals with water from your hose to clean them, and one where you fly through rings in the sky as a bird.

The game is due out in mid-March so that should give you plenty of time to dust off the old camera.
