Guilty Gear X

New life for the fighting-game genre on the PS2? 2D fighting hits a new stylish high with the follow up to the Guilty Gear.

The PlayStation wasn?t exactly the system of choice for 2D fighting games, as most releases were plagued with choppy animation and slowdown. Judging from the preview version of Guilty Gear X, however, it looks as if the genre will thrive for some time on the PS2. Not only does the game move at a blazing speed, but the flashy imagery and dead-on controls should keep fighting fanatics battling for hours. Fourteen or so fighters fill the lineup, including a jiggly petite female kick boxer and a lanky dude who wears a paper bag on his head and wields a giant scalpel.

In addition to a Street Fighter?esque play engine were high-hitting combos, counters, and instant-kill moves that can annihilate an opponent with a single blow...provided you can successfully input the complicated button commands. Complete with excellent sound effects, Guilty Gear X may usher in a new era of quality 2D home fighting games.
