Kameo: Elements of Power

Capture, raise, and take control of an animal armada in this action/adventure/RTS/monster-ranchin? hybrid from Nintendo uber-developer Rare.

Kameo's Clandestine Agenda
One of the lower-profile GameCube titles on display at E3 was Kameo: Elements of Power, an action/adventure/RTS/monster-ranchin? hybrid from Nintendo uber-developer, Rare. We suspect the reason for the low profile is simple: There are Elements of Pok?mon in Elements of Power, and Nintendo is trying to downplay its growing reputation as the ?Subjugate Lesser Creatures? company.

As a young fairy gal named Kameo, it?s your job to roam the countryside capturing innocent little animal-things with her subjugation device. You care for them, nurture their strengths, and earn their trust and loyalty until one day you hurl them into battle and force them to do your will?even leaping into their minds and wresting away control of their bodies. Sure, it looks ?cute??and your goal of freeing the land and finding ?elemental children? may seem ?noble??but be wary! There are sinister, sly forces at work here.

It's Evolution, Baby
The E3 preview build of Kameo was obviously early (the game is slated for a post-launch 2002 release), lacking the polish of games like Luigi?s Mansion, but the concept showed a lot of promise?assuming Rare can strike the right balance of different gameplay styles it?s trying to hybridize?and, of course, assuming that the precious little creatures don?t rise up and rebel against their cruel developers in the meantime.
