Skipping the Nintendo 64 altogether, the world can finally exhale as Samus readies a new adventure on the GameCube.
Although game details are still very sketchy, Nintendo is touting all the elements that made Metroid the classic that it is?Humongous maps, large bosses and all kinds of skills and weapons for Samus to earn and discover. There?s also a nebulous ?all new types of next generation gameplay? being promised, and current rumors suggest this refers to the switch to a first person perspective. The footage of mostly non-gameplay scenes was shown at E3 and drew loud cheers, but many questions remain on what shape the final game will take. Development is being handled by Retro Studios instead of Nintendo of Japan themsleves, which has caused much debate within fans, but it?s unlikely that Metroid will be released if it didn?t meet Nintendo?s high internal standards (they did kill Starfox 2 for SNES, after all). We?re hoping for more information this August at Nintendo?s Spaceworld show so stay tuned for more soon.
