Eternal Darkness

An ?insane? twist on the survival horror genre, Silicon Knights sets out to make their own bloody mark on the Gamecube.

Originally slated as a Nintendo 64 title, Eternal Darkness has officially moved on to the GameCube. At last year's E3, Eternal Darkness looked like mildly interesting title that had its work cut out for it finding the right audience. The jump to the next generation is the best thing that could have happened as all the macabre themes hinted at have come to life in ways that would have been a stretch on the N64.

Billed as a "psychological thriller" you play as multiple characters across various periods in history trying to solve the story's twisted mystery. You take damage from creatures as in any other game, but there is also a "sanity meter" which causes you to constantly figure out if things are really happening or if just all in your head. Losing your sanity also means the end of your game.

Whether wielding a sword or a shotgun, you can inflict location specific damage to the monsters you fight. This is key since some enemies can only be killed in specific ways while others have weaknesses that will wipe out an entire roomful if you can figure out how. Look for Eternal Darkness just in time for the insane holidays!
