Super Swing golf returns for Season 2. We get a first look at a Japanese build.

At TGS, we got a little behind the scenes time with an early Japanese version of Super Swing Golf Season 2. If you played the first game--the first full golf game on the Wii that shipped shortly after the launch of the console--then you'll be pretty familiar with the general style of the game and its characters.

Season 2 takes the same unique, core characters as the first game and adds more courses (there's one on the North Pole). There is a tour mode again this time, but Party Mode is where most of the new, unique features come into play. Party Mode has been expanded and there are lots of wacky party games that are good fun.

The Swing

The biggest change to Super Swing as a series is the swing mechanic. There was a lot of criticism about the first game being too difficult. Now there is a swing called "lucky impact" (Japanese translation) that makes it easy for anyone to get a perfect shot. It should bridge the gap between the causal and hardcore guys, which makes sense because the Wii is such a casual machine.

There's been a feature added to the swing mechanic called "swing barometer" that gives you a post-swing indication for exactly what you did wrong on the last swing. Practice makes perfect, here. If you're pushing your hands out and hence slicing, then you can adjust according to the barometer.

Tecmo said the fans had a lot to do with the development of Season 2, which is why certain things like difficulty level got adjusted. The game's interface has been simplified (the first was overly confusing) and you start with only four characters.

Party Games

The party games could be the biggest draw for Season 2, and we got our hands on Approach Darts (hit target rings for points), Longest Drive and Balloon Pop, which you can see below.

The Tour Mode has been simplified too, progressing on a Super Mario-3 like world map, and there are 8 area maps. There are even challenges along the way aside from the normal versus matches.
