Final Fantasy Chronicles

Square revamps and repackages two of their classic SNES RPGs--Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger?-only this time, for the PlayStation.

Those who don?t remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Those who do remember the past are at least given the option. After finding success with their previous retro RPG collection Final Fantasy Anthology, and with the impending Japanese release of Final Fantasy X, Square has decided to repackage two more of its classic RPGs for PlayStation owners to rediscover. Final Fantasy Chronicles, scheduled for release in July, will feature the Super NES classics Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger, repackaged and revamped for a whole new generation.

Final Fantasy IV was originally released for the SNES back in 1991 as Final Fantasy II, much to the delight of fans of games with ironic titles. The updated FF Chronicles version will feature a new translation of the original unedited storyline, new items and monsters, a two-player mode that lets a friend help out in battles, new cinemas, and a dash feature to make treks around town a less arduous ordeal.

Chrono Trigger, released back in 1995, was developed as a collaboration between three of Japan?s video game and entertainment giants?Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, Dragon Quest?sYuji Horii, and Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama. The new edition will feature new intro and ending sequences, as well as several recreations of key scenes that will help tie up loose ends and offer a little more insight into the game?s recent PS sequel Chrono Cross. Check out these Chronicles-enhanced Chrono Trigger screens and cut-scenes!
