THQ?s Red Faction is getting ready to blow up the FPS genre with its heavy firepower and modifiable environments. GamePro gives you an in-depth Hands-On.
Release the HoundsRed Faction, THQ?s first-person shooter, continues to impress. With the expanded preview version featuring more than a dozen levels and including the entire arsenal of weaponry, Faction is shaping up to be a must get PS2 game.
The biggest attraction to this title will be the Geo-Mod environments that enable you to blow up pretty much everything in your path?from locked doors and guard towers to boulders that your enemies are using for cover. But as the story of the game slowly comes together, it looks as though it may steal the show from the advanced gaming technology.
Excellent!
The game begins as a revolution breaks out on Mars between the Ultor Corporation and the miners it employs. Bloodshed and mayhem quickly ensue, so it?s up to you (along with some help from friends on the inside) to move your way through mine shafts and Ultor Corporate buildings, trying desperately to help the underdog miners, who are seriously out-gunned.
The sights and sounds of the game are already sharp, from splashy lighting and weapon effects to solid voice-overs and ear-blowing explosions. With an awesome arsenal, solid controls, interesting (and very long) levels, Red Faction is set to make some noise. Ready yourself for the coming revolution by checking out our three pages of screens!
