Adding a cool twist to the often boring action/puzzle genre is Eidos?s upcoming Herdy Gerdy. Originally intended for the N64, Herdy Gerdy looked so good to Sony that the company gave Core an early PS2 dev kit and the rest is history. In the game, a young shepherd by the name of Gerdy sets out to break a spell cast upon his father. The only way for him to break the spell is to become the number-one herder in his town, gain the approval of the elders, and secure the divine acorn.Playing as Gerdy, you'll herd 200 kinds of animals to prove your herding prowess. This will be tough enough by itself, but some of the animals will be afraid of each other. Try to herd a group of pigs to an area occupied by cows that the pigs are afraid of, and you'll have your hands full trying to keep a pack of spooked pigs under control. It will take keen thinking, smart planning, and a lot of patience, as there will be 200 types of animals?12 of which will be herdable?and 30 locations into which they can be herded.
Eidos claims the graphics will look very much like cell animation with bright cartoon-like colors. The world in Herdy Gerdy will be enormous, and each area will be individually rendered, making the landscape look different all over. In fact, there will be so many textures and landscapes, that Herdy Gerdy will be shipped on DVD instead of CD media.
