Smarty Pants

Here's a game that had me and GamePro News Editor Blake (who was also in attendance) sitting up a little straighter in our seats: Smarty Pants is a party game where you literally have to use your body as much as your brain.

For instance, in order to answer a question, you have to raise your hand before the other opponents to win the turn; tie with another player and you'll have to engage in a wrist-damaging "tug-of-war" to determine who gets a shot at answering the question. There's also a board-game like wheel that has to be spun and you can affect which space the arrow lands on with a little Wii Remote coaxing.

There seemed to be a fair amount of physical wrangling to gain an advantage and it was interesting to see how the developers are mixing the physical with the cerebral. We got just a tiny taste of the game so it is too soon to make a fair estimation but it was nice to see a party game that captured the finger-pointing, trash talking fun of the classic boardgames--like Trivial Pursuit, say--that we used to play around the kitchen table not so long ago.
