The Simpsons Game

The Simpsons Game is finally revealed, and we watch as fat Homer rolls right on through the Duff Beer Factory.

At EA's Summer Preview event today, all eyes were on The Simpsons Game, the just-announced first Simpsons title from EA. We weren't exactly sure what to expect of if we were even going to see any gameplay footage, but EA was pretty generous is showing the goods.

But first, here's a short list of highlights to give you an idea of what The Simpsons Game is all about.

  • The game will have all your favorite Simpsons characters.
  • Original cast and three show writers, plus Matt Groening, are on board
  • Not associated with the movie
  • 8000 unique lines of dialogue recorded exclusively for the game
  • It parodies other games and makes fun of the gaming
  • industry, with lots of pop culture references.
  • A next-generation gaming version of the show
  • Gameplay is based on a two-player co-op structure, usually mocking a certain gaming style of play like rolling in Katamari Damacy.
  • All five Simpsons family members (Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie) are playable
  • 16 episodes of story in presented through 4 chapters
  • Tons of recognizable things will be discoverable in the world of Springfield and beyond
  • Many other town characters will make in-game appearances
  • There will likely be lots of guest/celebrity voice appearances.

It started off with a short video of a playable level with Lisa and Bart. All the gameplay in the game is based on a two-player co-op style where you'll need flip between each player to accomplish different objectives. You can either play with the CPU or with a friend via split-screen co-op.

In the demonstration, Lisa and Bart find out they're in a video game and in the manual, they discover they have superpowers. Lisa, of course, wants to use her powers for good, so she convinces Bart that they should head into the Springfield forest to stop loggers from cutting down trees.

Hmm, I wonder what movie is being parodied here?
