The core idea behind the Katamari Damacy series is like a metaphor for its success. Like a perpetually growing Katamari ball of accomplishment, the Japanese-style game rolled from a relatively low-budget gameplay idea into a massive global hit. It's surprising that something so small became so big, but thankfully the gaming audience still appreciates simple creativity. And that's why the fundamental idea of picking up objects with a sticky ball is staying exactly the same, as Katamari rolls into the new console generation.
Sticking with Simplicity
Why dilute simplicity? To development, complicating the unique and straightforward experience of Katamari for the sake of making it new or next-gen is completely unnecessary. Instead, the core mechanics and retro look and feel of the series will remain unchanged. Beautiful Katamari, instead, is getting a huge technology boost on the Xbox 360, and so far it's looking exactly that: beautiful.
The King of All Cosmos' bumbling idiocy precedes him. He gets a little carried away, of course, and the Prince is once again called in to save the day and the fate of the universe, natch.
