There's also a lot of air-to-ground combat where you can take your dragon to the ground and pummel loads of human soldiers or battle some of the game's gnarly beasts. There are horses, rhino-like creatures, and lots of other myth-like beasts to brawl with. While you don't get off your dragon, fighting on the ground is really fun just based on the huge number of enemies you can attack on foot by using your dragon to claw and swipe multiple humans at a time. It almost feels like an RTS game like Rome: Total War.
There's a moral meter that constantly tells you how the overall moral is of the war you're fighting. So the more you help our people on your cause, the better your side's overall moral.
The first level we played gave a nice intro to what we can expect from the rest of the game, and that is tons of combat. And we also got to battle one of the game's first bosses, a giant coral snake that moves in and out of the sea.
Quite possible the coolest aspect of the game is the design of the dragons, which are a unique combination of dinosaurs and bats, an unusual take on the dragon style. Better yet, your character will develop an emotional attachment to his dragon (one of the good dragons), which will continually develop throughout the game.
LAIR is slated for July and will not support multiplayer.
