Sega is planning to unite home and arcade gaming with AlienFront Online, the first console game that will enable home players to battle with arcade patrons in real-time.
Sega is planning to unite home and arcade gaming with AlienFront Online, the first console game that will enable home players to battle with arcade patrons in real-time. That?s right?while you?re sitting on your couch attacking the Earth as the destructive Triclops aliens (complete with walkers and hovercraft), another team of coin-op commandos will be defending as the M1A1 tank-packin? human army (or vice versa). And you?ll hammer the hell out of each other over the Internet. It will be a fiery fight to the finish, as flamethrowers, grenade launchers, and even nuclear missiles are pitted against gravity balls, cloaking spores, and meteor showers. Cooler still, arcade players who choose a permanent nickname will be able to unlock secrets in the home version. Is this a bold advance in multiplayer combat or just a trick to get you to go to Sega?s GameWorks arcades? We?ll find out in May.
