Mortal Kombat Armageddon

Midway's one-on-one bloodbath is shipping to the Nintendo Wii.

The home of Mario is about to become drenched in blood once Mortal Kombat Armageddon, GamePro's 2006 "Fighting Game of the Year," comes to the Nintendo Wii this Spring.

Last October, Armageddon befell on PS2 and Xbox, with over 60 playable kombatants, masses of extra modes, and the deliciously vicious "Kreate a Fatality" system. This May, Wii owners will be able to tear their opponents apart using the Wii Remote and Nunchuk in the latest edition of the longstanding Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat Armageddon. Watch the game intro here.

Killer Kontrols
Mortal Kombat Armageddon is only the second fighting game to be released on the Nintendo Wii, the first being Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, and while it might seem as though the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk are not ideal for fighting titles, Midway has developed a control scheme that aims to take advantage of the Wii technology and its controllers. We were able to play the game in a recent hands-on demo, and we were blown away by how fast it took to get used to the controls.

Players move around the arena with the Nunchuk, performing special moves and fatalities with simple movements on the Wii Remote. A new training mode has been included in the Wii version of MKA that will get you accustomed to the controls, but you should be able to pick it up after about ten minutes or so. Once you learn 8 different motions with the Wii Remote, you'll be able to perform special moves with any character in the game.

Wii Slaughter
Exclusive to the Wii version of Mortal Kombat Armageddon is the Endurance Mode, where players will put their killing prowess to the test, eliminating as many enemies as they can.

If you're concerned about the graphics or any of the gameplay being dumbed down during the porting process, you can cast your fears aside because Mortal Kombat Armageddon is shaping up to be just as great as the PS2 and Xbox versions that were released last year.
