Hope springs anew for fans of the soon-to-be dismantled Clover Studio, as evidence suggests that its former members are alive and well, and working in Osaka.
It was just over four months ago today that Capcom's Board of Directors announced that Clover Studios, the creators of such games as Okami and the Viewtiful Joe series, would be shut down and its assets liquidated effective March of this year. Now, news of the design team's reunion has sparked interest across the internet.
This news comes in the form of a corporate website for a new independent development studio called "Seeds". Formed on August 1st, 2006, the Osaka-based developer is comprised of a total of 51 employees, and is headed by Atsushi Inaba (Viewtiful Joe), Hideki Kamiya (Devil May Cry), and Shinji Mikami (Resident Evil). The majority of the remaining employees is also comprised of former Capcom developers, but the studio is also seeking out new talent in the form of planners, programmers, designers, composers, and marketers, according to its recruitment site.
There is no word yet as to what Seeds' first project will be, or whether this team will remain completely independent or ally itself to a major third party publisher. But in a page detailing Seeds' development philosophy, the company writes, "Because of the fact that we desire more and more people to play [our games], we will always be conscious of what it means to be 'worldwide'."
