To further add gasoline to the flaming rumor claiming that a Black Xbox 360 would be released to the Australian market, the first rumors of a possible release for this phantom system have started to pop up all across America as well. An employee of GameCrazy recently posted a message on the forums of Cheap Ass Gamer, stating that their computer systems received a recent price update containing a new black Xbox 360 system, priced at $479.99. According to the the update, it would be arriving in stores as early as May 1st, 2007.
While other sites are reporting that most GameCrazy stores across the country are confirming the rumor, phone calls made by this reporter to local stores yielded no answers, as most employees within the immediate area had no information regarding such a price update.
But one particular GameCrazy employee (also a CAG forum poster) pointed out the cryptic entry of a GM-Xbox System (Defective), being sold for $0.00. He clarified that pricing a future item at $0.00 is GameCrazy's safe measure method of preventing pre-orders for tentative items that may or may not exist.
It also seems that the listing for the black 360 is exclusive to GameCrazy, since calls to local GameStop/EB Games stores revealed no record of its product number in their systems. Is GameCrazy just gambling with the recent rumors, or do they actually have inside information? We'll let you know as soon as the story finally breaks.
