Assuredly, some of you who will be excited about putting your brand new copies of Crackdown into your Xbox 360s next week. (And why shouldn't you be? We just called it one of the best games of the year, with or without the Halo 3 beta.) You might be a little surprised, then, when you'll be asked to download an immediate software update.

"But I just took the game out of the plastic!" you might say.

Yes, we know.

According to an article at IGN, issues with matchmaking, as well as a few minor stuttering problems that occasionally occur in co-op will be corrected with this latest patch. Says Microsoft:

"The update will help ensure a more smooth and seamless cooperative gameplay experience for Crackdown fans everywhere."

A game that's patched right out of the box? These are strange times we live in.
