In a press release dated today, id Sotware revealed that Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, the newest game in their flagship Quake series of first person shooters, will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 along with the already established PC version. Dallas-based Nerve Software, developers of the Xbox title Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War, will be taking the reins of development for the Xbox 360 version. California-based Z-Axis, producer of Activision's line of Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX games, will be handling the duties of creating the PS3 version.
The next-gen console versions of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will, much like the PC version, feature a team-focused brand of strategic play, which can be utilized in online battles containing up to 16 players. Gamers can choose to play as members of either the GDF army or the Strogg invasion force, each side offering five unique character classes with different strengths and weaknesses. Players in the game will also be able to pilot numerous air and land vehicles, establish bases, and deploy strategic structures such as artillery, radar, and advanced forward-command systems.
Neither the two console versions nor the PC version have been given a specific release date, but Activision promises that all three versions will be released sometime within the 2007 calendar year. The PC version, which has experienced numerous delays since its original announcement in 2005, was recently delayed from its previous release date of Q4 2007 (1/2007~3/2007).
