Big Koei news: Musou in, Bladestorm out

Busy week for the popular Japanese company results in major announcements for their next-gen titles

Koei's Gamecity site has revealed some big news topics today, varying in range from exciting to disappointing to... fuzzy.

First up is the announcement of a new Japanese PS3 bundle dedicated to the upcoming release of Gundam Musou. The bundle, which will also be on sale March 1st, will contain a 60 GB PS3, a copy of the game, a "technical file" (most likely a descriptive list of the numerous mobile suits that can be found in the game), a "character file", and an 8 piece set of art cards. The price for this bundle is set at 72,000 yen (~$600 USD), and will be absolutely certain to drive up PS3 sales in Japan.

In addition, the Gundam Musou website has updated its second gameplay video featuring Char's Custom Gelgoog wreckin' a whole mess of Balls (and GMs too, of course).

Unfortunately, with all this next-generation fanfare comes a price. A statement on Bladestorm's promotional website has announced that the action/strategy game based on the Hundred Years' War has been postponed indefinitely, but Koei still plans to release it for both PS3 and Xbox within the 2007 calendar year. The postponement will allow the development team Omega Force to refine the game by further familiarizing themselves with the next-generation hardware, as well as concentrate on upcoming Musou projects such as Gundam Musou and Musou Orochi. No word yet on how this will affect the North American release date of Summer 2007.

And lastly, Gamecity has also readied their electronic greeting card service for Valentine's Day. Starting from February 5th up to the 18th, Gamecity users can send greeting cards with either a chocolate or rose-themed background. Unfortunately, usage of the free service requires user registration. And a healthy knowledge of Japanese.
