Crackdown demo breaks download records

If you've played it, you already know why.

According to this report from IGN, Microsoft is touting the Crackdown demo released last Wednesday as the new download champion. Despite being more than 1GB in size, and only being available to Gold subscribers until this morning, the co-op supporting demo racked up enough downloads in its first 24 hours to topple previous record holders like Fight Night Round 3 and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition.

Microsoft hasn't yet released any specific numbers to back up their claim, but this achievement hardly seems like a stretch in the wake of the recent revelation that a copy of the game will automatically buy the owner entry into the highly anticipated Halo 3 multiplayer beta. It's only natural that gamers would want to see whether they'd be forking out $60 for a beta and a glorified coaster. Luckily, in this case, gamers will be getting a beta and an intense lesson in urban crime-fighting.
