The Halo 3 beta is about to blow up huge, thanks to a helping hand from Crackdown.
So much for "specially marked boxes"
Halo 3 won't be out for a good long time yet, but that hasn't stopped the multiplayer beta craze it's stirred up from gaining the sort of momentum any developer would envy. The current beneficiary? Realtime World's free-roaming "Crackdown," due to see release on February 20.
What's more, while Crackdown's advertising campaign had previously clearly indicated that only "specially marked boxes" of the game would contain a Halo 3 beta invite, IGN is reporting that a Microsoft representative has confirmed that every copy of the game will include the much sought-after Bungie lovin'. If you're still hellbent on missing out on Crackdown's killer action, there are still other ways to earn a spot.
It seems more and more that the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta is going to be a "beta test" in name only. How many of the tens of thousands of people likely to take part are actually going to be sending in bug reports? Any of them?
