GamePro recently sat down with Burnout Dominator Senior Producer, Nick Channon, to talk about the game, the cars, the franchise.
GamePro: With Burnout Dominator, is Criterion sending a message that the PlayStation 2 still has a lot of life left?
Nick Channon: Absolutely. There are millions of gamers out there looking for great software on the PS2 and PSP. Burnout Dominator has been designed specifically to take advantage of what these systems do best, and give current-gen gamers another great Burnout game.
GP: Is Dominator going to be a full Burnout experience with a similar amount of gameplay as the previous Burnout games?
CHANNON: Burnout Dominator is an all-new, full-featured Burnout game and a return to the intense reckless, skill-based racing experience at the heart of the series. It's loaded with dozens of new cars, tracks, objectives, features and modes on top of old favorites like Burning Lap and Road Rage. Gamers will be busy unlocking everything in the game for a long, long time.

GP: Can you tell us how many new tracks and vehicles will be in the game? Will series fans see any familiar things?
CHANNON: We're still working out all the specifics, but all the tracks and many of the cars are being built from scratch for Burnout Dominator.
Fans will be happy to know that while we're loading the game with new content, what hasn't changed is the core of the Burnout experience - the celebration of reckless, high speed driving. Tracks are loaded with amazing drifting corners that will let you link drifts together, big motorway sections with loads of traffic to dodge, wicked bottlenecks where you're need to battle hard with your rivals, and shortcuts everywhere.
Longtime fans of the series will also recognize "Burnouts" from Burnout 2: Point of Impact, which will make a return in the game. If you're not familiar, Burnouts are all about filling your boost meter and using it all in one go. Then we challenge gamers to chain Burnouts together for the ultimate insane driving experience.
Another big addition is the all-new Maniac mode, which is all about fighting the clock and chaining together as many crazy driving moves as possible to racking up huge scores -- it's all about near-misses, big air, shortcuts, chaining Burnouts whatever other dirty tricks you have up your sleeves.
GP: We've heard that Dominator will return to the series roots. Is there a specific Burnout game (1, 2, 3, or Revenge) that it will resemble most?
CHANNON: Burnout Dominator isn't modelled after any one single Burnout game, but rather the core of the entire series, which is dangerous, skilful driving at absolutely ridiculous speeds. Games like Burnout Revenge focused more on crashing and destruction, and while there are still elements of that in the Burnout Dominator, we wanted to focus more on the racing experience and the sensation of speed. We wanted gamers to FEAR crashing, which makes the high-speeds in the game even more intense. To instil players with a fear of crashing we decided to remove traffic checking from this game. Some people will like this move right away, some won't at first, but it really adds an element of fear, intensity and immediacy to the racing.
