In this morning's press release, Bethesda Softworks announces a spring release for the expansion to their widely lauded role-playing game. The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles will hit both the PC and Xbox 360, with the latter version downloadable from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Players will discover a portal to the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness, in the Nibben Bay, along with thirty hours of new gameplay.

Once you set foot on this strange new landscape, you'll be called upon by Sheogorath himself to "defend his realm and its inhabitants from destruction." The entire plane of existence is suffering from some sort of strange bipolar crisis, wavering between the extremes of Mania and Dementia, and more than a dozen new creatures will keep you on your armored toes.

The upcoming PlayStation 3 release of the hugely popular RPG isn't mentioned in the press release, and there's no word yet on pricing for either the retail PC expansion, or the downloadable Xbox 360 version. We'll keep you posted.
