Sony: PS2 outselling Xbox 360

Though the Xbox 360 is selling well, Sony points out that the older PlayStation 2 actually enjoys bigger sales.

In an interview with GameInformer, Sony Computer Entertainment of America Senior VP of Marketing, Peter Dille, explains that the holidays were a rousing success for the company, boasting more than one million "sold in" PlayStation 3 units in North America. What this actually means is that one million units have made it onto retailers' shelves, not that all those units have found loving new homes.

Dille's most interesting point actually has to do with the still lingering previous generation: "Month in, month out, the PlayStation 2 continues to outsell Xbox 360." Meanwhile, you can't even buy accessories for the original Xbox, much less a brand new system, and gone are the days when the PS2's overwhelming success could be solely attributable to consumers latching onto a cheap DVD player.
