New Resident Evil 5 target release revealed

Minor as they are, small new details have been revealed about the next-gen installment of the Resident Evil franchise.

Don't expect to see this fella in action for at least another year.

Don't expect to see this fella in action for at least another year.

Speaking in the latest issue of Famitsu, the producer of Resident Evil 5 dishes that the game is being made for both the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but that we won't see a release until some time in 2008. Continuing to speak in vague terms, he mentions his team is "aiming" for 60 frames per second and increased environmental interaction, with heat and cold weather playing an important role in the game.

And based off other statements in the magazine, the game's graphics should impress, too (like that's any surprise, considering Resident Evil 4's stellar showing). The producer mentions the game engine is capable of creating muscle over a character's face that will enable realistic facial expression and that hair is even modeled from root to tip. If hyperbolic statements like that don't get you excited about a game's graphics, nothing will.

With 2008 so far away, it can be safe to assume that a great deal of effort is being put into Resident Evil 5 on Capcom's part to meet or exceed the lofty expectations of the franchise after Resident Evil 4 gave the series a much-needed shot in the arm.
