Microsoft is betting heavily on Blue Dragon, a new Xbox 360 RPG that may bolster the company's chances in the notoriously tough Japanese market.

In the latest make-or-break moment for Microsoft's Xbox 360 in Japan, Mistwalker has just released its winter headliner, Blue Dragon, from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.

The glossy RPG is being sold here as a bundle with a 360 core system for just ?29,800 (US $256), which works out as equivalent to a pretty heavily discounted console thrown in with the game. Or a free game with the console. Or whatever.

Wow, talk about dirt-cheap deal. Why doesn't Microsoft unleash some of that bundle love here in the States?

I'd buy Gears of War and an Xbox 360 for $256. At that price, Sony wouldn't stand a chance...
