PlayStation 4: Sooner than we think?

PlayStation 4? It's not as crazy as it sounds. But consumers shouldn't expect the console until 2010 at the soonest, said vice president of technology for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Paul Holman.

Despite recent rumors that Sony may be preparing to exit the console hardware business given its management shift among top SCEI executives, Holman clarifies with SmartHouse that Sony is indeed planning to launch a PlayStation 4, but no sooner than 2010. "To say that there will be no PS4 because of a management change is a bit far fetched," Holman says.

According to Holman, it's too soon to be speaking of the PS4, since game developers are just discovering that the PS3 has "more processing headroom than they initially anticipated and that this was resulting in the development of new gaming capabilities."

What about these "new gaming capabilities?"

Holman said that Sony plans to release a series of firmware upgrades, as the company has done with its PSP, to enable the PS3 to become more media center oriented and allow for third-party applications and hardware "such as interactive controllers" like the Nintendo Wii remote.

And just to address the other points you made harry456 'no games' how many exclusive titles has the 360 got coming soon? GOW2 lol oh and over priced movie player did you buy the now defunct hd add on for your dreamcast in new cloths lol.

PS3 isnt going no where and i strongly believe that...herry564 no games and over priced the price drop alot more then you think and we have plenty of games as of right now and there comming quick....look at the ps2 games compared to the orginal xbox where is the orginal xbox games at? now look at the ps3 and xbox 360? do you notice anything about that? but the only difference is ps3 will probably have more games then the 360 plus we have ps1 and ps2 games that we can go back and play and you might be thinkin why would you go back and play old games like that? and ill have to say the same reason why people go back to play super mario brothers...

First off I'd like to say I agree 110% with bryant16319. Now I'd like to touch on a different issue. I am tired of all the xbox360 lovers talking all that shit about the cost of the ps3. Yea it may be more expensive at first but lets look into what makes it that much more expensive and why the xbox360 isn't shall we. The PS3 comes with a HDD the xbox does not there's about $100, the PS3 allows for free online gaming and the xbox does not there's $50 per month there, PS3 can play bluray discs and the xbox cannot thats about $250 there,... need i say more? Now I'm sure I am gonna get crap for the bluray one but whatever take that one out and it will still prove my point. Lets just say the xbox owner only plays online and has not added any extras to his/her machine. In just 3 years that is $150, 5 years is $250, and for the long time gamer in 10 years that will be an extra $500 JUST to play online. So before one starts talking crap really think about how much is put into the xbox in extra stuff and what the PS3 originally gives you.
