Wii owners may have to wait a little longer for the first Mario title for the new console, according to Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime.

Fils-Aime made a key update concerning Nintendo's Wii console during an interview with MTV. He told the reporter to expect Super Mario Galaxy sometime between March of 2007 and Christmas of 2007.

Though it technically doesn't represent a delay, Fils-Aime's estimate could throw a screwball to Nintendo's early success with the Wii.

Super Mario Galaxy, originally mentioned during the 2006 Game Developer's Conference, was never given a firm release date. But many gamers and industry insiders expected the game to ship in late 2006 or early 2007. As it currently stands, only one marquee Nintendo game -- The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess -- is available for the Wii. And though fans crave more Nintendo-designed games, they'll have to wait until later in 2007 for Metroid Prime: Corruption and, now, Super Mario Galaxy.

Fils-Aime also mentioned the Wii's strong sales (600,000 units in just eight days in the US), as well as massive sales of the system's marquee title, Zelda: Twilight Princess (450,000 units sold). But other software has also prospered: Fils-Aime mentioned that third-party games Madden NFL 07, Rayman: Raving Rabbids, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, and Red Steel are all enjoying hearty sales.
