Game developer Rare is holding off on downloadable content for its recently released Viva Pinata for the Xbox 360 until there is a clear demand for it.
Rare Still Not Sold on Downloadable Content for 360
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Greg Mayles, lead designer at Rare, is unsure whether the manpower would be best if put towards fresh Viva Pinata downloadable content, or an entirely different game. "It's almost pointless doing a huge amount of work at this point because if it's not going to be successful you may as well put that effort into making a new game," said Mayles.
"We've got plenty of ideas for what we can do with downloadable content because Pi?ata is such a unique game," said Mayles, "but the jury is still out."
Rare, however, is not ruling out downloadable content entirely. Production director, Simon Farmer, stated that if Rare were to release additional content for Viva Pinata, it would have to be a good value for money from the consumer's perspective. "There's no way we're going to be in a position where we feel like we're ripping the consumer off," said Farmer. "We'll have to look at it, and how it pans out with the other games on 360."
