Vavle's Source Engine, used to create the Popular Half-Life 2 series, is now available to developers as middleware for the Xbox 360.
Team Fortress 2 will come packaged with Half-Life 2: Episode 2 on the Xbox 360
According to GamesIndsustry.biz, the engine has been optimized to take full advantage of the Xbox 360's capabilities, and even supports Xbox Live. The source engine is perfect for the Xbox 360 "whether [developers are] pursuing a traditional FPS, RTS, RPG or delving into new genres," said Valve boss Gabe Newell.
The Source Engine is already being used by Valve to bring Half-Life 2, HL2: Episode 1, HL2: Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal in one bundle to the Xbox 360.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that the HL2 bundle was thought to be in development for the PlayStation 3, but a Valve representative has clarified that there is no Source Engine middleware in the works for the PS3 at this time.
