Game publisher Vivendi today announced that it is delayed the next-generation shooter TimeShift until an unspecified time in 2007.
Timeshift gets delayed yet again
The company cited a need to give the game "the time and resources needed to fulfill its potential" as the reason for the delay. The title, which is being developed by Saber Interactive for the Xbox 360 and PC, has had a long and troubled development history, having already been delayed once before for similar quality related issues.
Vivendi recently bought TimeShift from troubled publisher Atari. According to the delay announcement, Vivendi "acquired TimeShift with the view that it would become a stand out FPS franchise." The announcement also notes that Vivendi's "commitment to that vision remains."
Smart move -- this game needs a lot of work if it's going to be a top-tier shooter like Vivendi's own masterpiece, F.E.A.R. Slo-mo bullet time effects are overused as it is, and even with TimeShift's temporal distortion gameplay gimmick, this game was never much more than a cool premise.
Here's hoping TimeShift gets the time and resources it needs to help in "fulfilling its potential."
