British police officials speak out against police torture and other violence directed towards police officers in Eidos' upcoming Reservoir Dogs game.
Does Reservoir Dogs go to far with its cop killing scenarios?
A week after being banned in Australia, the Reservoir Dogs video game is under fire again. This time, the Yorkshire Post reveals that the West Yorkshire Police Federation is attacking Reservoir Dogs, which is based on Quentin Tarantino's film by the same name, for its "sickening glorification of violence against police officers."
According to the report, players can torture police in the Reservoir Dogs game by slicing off fingers with a cigar cutter, jamming a lit cigar into their eyes, or cutting off their ears with a scalpel.
He's not sleeping.
Harrogate MP Phil Willis adds that he is "absolutely staggered that such a game is being allowed to be sold," and that the violent depictions in the game send out the message that cops should be "targeted and dispatched." Willis further claims that playing games like Reservoir Dogs "desensitizes people to the idea of killing and undermines normal moral values."
Despite the negative reaction by the British police, the game will still be released in the UK on September 29, 2006, and on October 29, 2006 in the US. The game will be available for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC.
