Nintendo Mum on DS Lite Cracks

With reports of cracked and defective DS Lites hitting the Internet, Nintendo is keeping a low profile. . . at least, for the moment.

According to top gaming blog Joystiq, their DS Lite has shown an unexplainable fracture on the plastic hinge that houses the unit's LCD screen.
Joystiq notes that the crack is "merely cosmetic," but the issues are popping up in a significant number of other DS Lites. MaxConsole.net reports that 12 readers have confirmed similar cracks, with photographic evidence provided by four users.
For its part, Nintendo has not issued any statements on the matter. Speaking to GamePro, a Nintendo representative responded that he was "still waiting to hear back" from the company regarding the reports.
UPDATE: Gaming blog Kotaku has updated with a poll that asks whether users have experience cracked hinges on their DS Lites. Though the poll is informal, 165 users -- or almost 10% of participants -- answered that they have the hinge crack.
