Gaming controller manufacturer Guitar Mania has released the first third-party controller for hit party game Guitar Hero. Though the "Shredder" boasts a hot new look, fans have given it mixed scores. It retails on import site Lik-Sang for $49.
The Shredder boasts a hot new look...
...but is it worth the price?
Testimonials published on a number of retail sites give conflicting opinions on the reliability of the enhancements of the Shredder Controller. In a post on Amazon.com, reviewer Guan-tai Chin describes the third-party Guitar Hero controller as "awful," adding that "the Whammy Bar and Strummer are very loose. The Fret buttons have a tendency to get stuck. Also, you have to shake it in order to use the Star Power."
In another post on GuitarHeroGame.com, reviewer JJ and the schoolers lends his take on this Guitar Hero peripheral. He says that titling the guitar upright can be difficult at times and the added option of shaking the Guitar and using the relocated Select button to initiate Star Power is a much appreciated improvement. "So for users that don't like to tilt it, the select button is right there, and it can be easily pressed by your palm."

Like most third-party game controllers, I'm sure the Shredder doesn't have the solid build quality of the original Guitar Hero SG controller. Understandable.
But honestly, I don't care if the buttons are a little janky -- this thing looks wicked cool, even if it is just to put on my wall as a symbol of my face melting solos of the past.
