Early Reports Indicate Major Issues with New Oblivion Patch

The new patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been greeted eagerly by fans. But now a host of show-stopping glitches is spoiling the fun for some players. What gives?

The good news is that the new version 1.1 patch for Oblivion seems to have boosted frame rates and improved performance for some players. One player said that "the game on my 360 plays a hell of a lot smoother for me. Far, far less hitching than before and the framerate is smoother on the eye," though he notes that busier areas are "still a bit sketchy."

The bad news is that new problems seem to have been introduced, according to posts on the game's official web site. Interestingly, the issues appear to relate to both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game.

Players are reporting crashes, various glitches regarding quests, and missing characters and items.

We've contacted Bethesda regarding the matter, and will post their response as soon as we get it.

THE VERDICT by Sid Shuman Sid Shuman's Avatar

Ooof. It's possible that these are just isolated incidents, but there seem to be quite a few issues judging by the forum threads.

But Bethesda has a good track record for fixing issues like this. If there really are problems related to this patch, I'm confident they'll be fixed shortly. It might be a simple mistake that can be fixed quickly. We'll soon see.
