The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Gets Upgraded

It's finally happened -- Bethesda Softworks has released the much-anticipated first patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion...at least, for the PC. The Xbox 360 version is due tomorrow. The patch fixes a number of issues relating to both the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the game.

Officially dubbed Version 1.1.511, the Oblivion patch is the final version of a beta patch that has been in development ever since Oblivion launched in March of 2006.

Among the bug fixes and quest fixes is an interesting new feature called "Very Low Quality" mode. This less visually intensive setting enhances support for less-capable gaming PCs. Very Low Quality mode is available through the Oblivion pre-game launcher program, and it extends support for older video cards. The change log specifically names the Geforce FX series, starting with the 5700 and lower.

On the PC side, the patch also extends support for dual-video card configurations, such as nVidia's SLI and ATi's Crossfire modes.

You can download the Xbox 360 patch via Xbox Live tomorrow. The final PC patch is available now here. It weighs in at just 1.6 MB.
