Sony's Phil Harrison: PS3 Makes PCs Obsolete

In a telling interview with respected German magazine Der Spiegel, PlayStation 3 frontman Phil Harrison makes some bold claims about the PS3's place in the home.

The key quote from the interview gives a crystal-clear view into Sony's ambitious plans: "We believe that the PS3 will be the place where our users play games, watch films, browse the Web, and use other [PC] functions," said Harrison. "The PlayStation 3 is a computer. We do not need the PC."

You heard it, folks -- Sony is through screwing around. They want the PS3 to be the single most important device in your entire house.

It's either completely genius or completely mad, but Sony runs red-hot and ice-cold. This could go either way.
