Miyamoto points out Microsoft and Sony's lack of innovation with the Xbox 360 and PS3

Mario creator criticizes next-gen consoles, says "flattered" by Sony's motion-sensing controller

According to Gamesindustry.biz, Mario and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto criticized Sony and Microsoft for relying solely on better graphics in the next generation of gaming in an interview with the Edmonton Sun.

The famed Nintendo creator also said he was "flattered" that Sony decided to implement motion-sensing capabilities into the PS3 controller. "It kind of reinforces in our minds that we're doing the right thing," said Miyamoto, denying that Sony is purely copying Nintendo's strategy with the Wii.

It kind of reinforces in our minds that we're doing the right thing."

But commenting on Sony and Microsoft's next-generation showings at E3, Miyamoto replied, "They're talking about the next generation of the same old videogames - it's the same old experiences with new graphics."

"And while there are people who enjoy that, we're really talking about the next leap in interactive entertainment," he continued, "... really bringing interactive entertainment not just to videogame fans but to everyone."

Miyamoto also denied the accusation that the Wii controller will require lots of physical movement. "You can sit with Zelda and just with little movements you can control the game perfectly well. Similarly with tennis, by kind of slapping the Wii remote against your hand, you can play the game that way if you really want to."
