Shock: PlayStation 3 to Cost $800 in UK

The PS3 will cost British gamers the equivalent of US $800. Sony calls this price "cheap" and a "bargain."
$800 for a PS3: and you thought you had it bad now
The managing director of Sony's UK gaming division has told Eurogamer that the PlayStation 3 will cost 425 pounds -- or just over US $800 -- when it launches in Europe on November 17th.
In the interview, Ray Maguire explains how even at that price, the PS3 is "probably a cheap machine." Maguire predicts that the first British Blu-ray players will likely cost between 600 and 700 pounds (US $1,137-1,320), making the the PS3 a "bargain" by comparison.
The $800 price is for the 60 GB model. But Eurogamer's sources also claim that Sony isn't planning on releasing the cheaper 20 GB model at all, so it may be all or nothing for British gamers.
But Sony doesn't appear to be naive about their pricing strategy, with Maguire telling Eurogamer that "[$800] is definitely not a mass market price, no."
