Following a 13-hour downtime, Xbox Live comes back online with a new feature called "Message Center." But is it really worth paying for?
Xbox 360 owners are getting a nice bonus, a new feature that Microsoft is dubbing the "Message Center."
The feature is only designed for Xbox 360 owners. Users can draft short messages -- 250 characters, or a few short sentences -- to send to other Xbox 360 owners or PC users via Xbox.com. The Message Center also allows users to block and unblock messages from other GamerTags.
The only catch? For starters, you'll need an Xbox 360 or PC. But perhaps more importantly, you'll need to pay for a premium Xbox Live Gold account in order to get the full feature set. Include, oddly, the ability to send messages.
If you use free services like Xbox.com and Xbox Live Silver, you'll be able to recieve messages, but not send them.
It might not be worth paying extra for, but if you already have an Xbox Live Gold account, the Message Center is a nice bonus. We'll give it a whirl and let you know what we think.
