A Massachusetts man has gone through four Xbox 360s in the last five months. The situation became so bad that he received a personal phonecall apology from 360 mastermind Peter Moore.
Talk about bad luck.
Chris Szarek, a Massachusetts man, has gone through four Xbox 360 units in the last five months. Each defective unit had to be replaced by Microsoft, but not without considerable hassle on Szarek's part.
Szarek picked up his first Xbox 360 on December 23rd, 2005. But the unit failed to operate on January 21st, when the central LED displayed when Szarek calls the "three red lights of death." His first calls to Microsoft customer support yielded no workable results -- they recommended he take the console back to the EBGames where he bought it. Problem was, of course, that the Xbox 360 was in a dire supply shortage at the time.
One refurbished (and defective) unit later, Szarek was fed up enough to threaten Microsoft public relations officials with a wave of bad press. From there, the situation spiraled out of control -- you can read the full story at Dean Takahashi's blog.
Microsoft's take? "This unique situation provided an opportunity to exercise that commitment," said Microsoft PR manager Molly O'Donnell. "We are happy to know that Chris feels taken care of and remains a fan of Xbox and Xbox 360.''
