Time magazine names World of Warcraft creator Rob Pardo in the Time 100: The People Who Shape Our World. Who's next? Master Chief?
In a growing sign of the influence on online virtual worlds and the video game industry as a whole, Time magazine has named a creator of World of Wacraft in its yearly Time 100 awards. The Time 100 awards are a list of influential people who contribute most to the world.
This year, amidst the Howard Sterns and George Clooneys, an unassuming name made the cut: Rob Pardo.
Pardo is the vice president of game design at Blizzard, and a chief creative force behind the developer's mega-hit online role-playing game World of Warcraft. Time acknowledged WoW's ground-breaking design by saying that it represents the "future of electronic entertainment." Time also noted WoW's soaring popularity, saying that "if World of Warcraft gets any more popular, it may be up for a seat in the U.N."
It marks what is almost certainly the first time that a video game developer has appeared on Time's list.
