Square Enix Slump: Profit Forecast Slashed by 40%

Square Enix slashes profit forecast by 40% as video game division stumbles

Square Enix has struck gold with its Full Metal Alchemist comics and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children film, but its gaming performance is way down.

Square Enix has announced that it will slash its profit forecast by 40% and its revenues by 8% for the upcoming year as sales drooped for its gaming divisions, which include offline, offline, and mobile game lineups.

Judging by the fact that Final Fantasy XII and Kingdom Hearts II have sold well in Japan, this slashed forecast could indicate that the company is concerned about the state of its 2006 game lineup, which includes PS2 titles Valkyrie Profile 2 and Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus.

The company has received some negative feedback about Dirge of Cerberus based on the Japanese version, and is retooling and refining the PS2 shooter for its American release later this year.
