A Bethesda representative explains in more detail what will be included in the upcoming Oblivion patch
Bethesda is still working "as fast as they can" to finish up an eagerly anticipated patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. And though the patch will be available for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game, there's been some question as to whether the patch will smooth out the game's well-documented frame rate problems or shorten its load times.
We spoke with Bethesda representative Pete Hines, who elaborated further upon the developer's plans for Oblivion.
As to whether the patch will improve frame rates, Hines explained that "some folks will see some improvements" but offered no firm estimate of how big the improvement would be.
But the excessive load times that have plagued the Xbox 360 version are, it seems, tied to a bug that will be fixed. Hines explains that "most folks experiencing issues with bad loading times [on the Xbox 360 version of Oblivion] have the cache error," which can be solved by holding down the A button as the game boots up.
As for the complaints over lengthy load times in both the PC and Xbox 360 versions, Hines said that the "only way to dramatically improve [the load time] is to allow people to do less and go fewer places."
"A big game where you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want is going to come with some loading times," Hines said.
