Widespread Server Crash in World of Warcraft After New Patch

Blizzard introduces new World of Warcraft patch, servers suffer serious technical glitches

Shortly after introducing an eagerly anticipated upgrade for World of Warcraft today, Blizzard suffered technical problems that caused the game servers to crash. The game is still suffering from intermittent service, some twelve hours after the first problems.

The downtime began just before noon today, Pacific Standard Time. Though the game has gone up several times since then, technical problems have brought it grinding to a halt time and time again. World of Warcraft currently serves over six million customers worldwide, asily making it the largest MMO.

The World of Warcraft message boards are flooded at the moment -- we'd love to direct you to an official Blizzard statement on the technical problems, but error messages are keeping us from accessing the official game forums. But rest assured that Blizzard is working to fix the problem and restore the game to normality. We'll have more information soon.
