Namco-Bandai sheds light on the future of the Katamari Damacy series

To paraphrase Mark Twain's crusty old chestnut, rumors of Katamari Damacy's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

In response to chatter that the Katamari series has gone belly-up with series creator Keita Takahashi moving on to other projects, a Namco-Bandai representative told GamePro that "Takahashi-san has been working on other projects throughout the development of Me and My Katamari, but we have not announced any specific details yet."

The representative went on to say that the closing ("retirement") of the Japanese Katamari Damacy site "is by no means an indication that the Katamari series has concluded."

Rumors have circulated ever since the Japanese Katamari site recently went dead, replaced by a farewell message stating that the team responsible for the cult hit Katamari games had moved on to other projects.

This announcement didn't exactly surprise industry insiders, who knew that Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi has expressed frustration towards what he viewed as excessive video game sequels.

We'll follow up with Namco-Bandai to see what their plans for follow-ups to Katamari and the new, projects being overseen by Takahashi.
