Iwata confirms that Revolution will play classic games from Sega, Hudsonsoft

During his keynote at the Game Developers' Conference today, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata made the surprise announcement that the Revolution would play retro games originally designed by Sega and Hudsonsoft.

Though he didn't get into specifics about individual titles, Iwata said that "not all of them will be available, but the best of them will." Distribution is planned to be online, with Iwata making comparisons to Apple's iTunes music store.

The fact that Nintendo is harnessing retro titles from its two oldest video game rivals -- Sega and Hudsonsoft -- sends a clear signal that the video game industry has been utterly transformed.
