Rockstar reveals details in an investor relations conference call
Buried in a recent conference call are tantalizing details about Take Two's plans for the Grand Theft Auto series and the upcoming game Bully.
Saying that Take Two's strategy "is to continue to develop quality games," Take Two CEO Paul Eibler outlined the company's plans for the year ahead and promised to pull the company up from its "disappointing" first quarter 2006 sales performance. The company officially lost $29 million for the quarter, down from $55 million one year ago.
For starters, it looks as though Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will retail "late in the second quarter" for the PS2. When an investor questioned Eibers about the pricing strategy for the PS2 version of Libery City Stories, Eibers said that Take Two was "looking at a lower pricing [for] Liberty City Stories for the [PS2]" because the PS2 unit costs $100 less than the PSP.
As for Bully, Eibers first said that the game would be released "later this year" for the Xbox and PS2. When an investor questioned the company's plans for Bully, Eibers said that the company has gone back and "evaluated" the game, "given the [current] climate" regarding the controversy over game violence.
Eibers said that the game is expected in the "back half" of the year.
