EA Cuts Prices on New Games; Black, The Godfather Now $39

EA trims prices on new PS2 and Xbox titles, including Black and The Godfather

Electronic Arts looks to be cutting prices on its new current-generation games. The Godfather (February 28) and Black (March 21) will retail for $39.95, roughly $10 lower than the standard third-party game price of $50.

Fight Night Round 3, which shipped on Monday for PS2 and Xbox, hit retail at $39.95, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted also dropped down to the lowered price.

With the booming popularity of the Xbox 360, and the anticipation of the PS3 and Revolution quickly growing, current-generation console sales have been sluggish. The drop in price can be seen as EA's new strategy to sustain interest in aging current-generation consoles.

While it is nice to see EA cut prices, it should be noted that Sony first-party PS2 titles have always sold for $39.99.
